- Pixi Glow Tonic by Pixi ($29, 250ml)
- A face in need of glow
WHAT TO KNOW:
- Contains glycolic acid that exfoliates the skin without stripping it.
- Is packed with Aloe Vera which helps hydrate and rejuvenate the skin.
- Glycolic acid is suitable for all skin types - except those that have severe rosacea acne.
We find the word glow to be appropriate on a day like this. We want to glow for the new year! Also, because winter time has been hard on our skin, we sorta need this in our life. Shall we get started?
It is a very useful product and ideal to use at this time of year!
Due to the cold weather, our skin tends to get drier than usual and in desperate need of hydration! Also, winter time is ideal for using glycolic acid because the face is less exposed to the sun.
After drinking, eating and partying too hard we need something to give us back THAT HEALTHY GLOW! - I definitely need this! (who’s detoxing with me?! - after New Years OFC!)
Pixi Glow Tonic has been a cult product since it first came out. There has been much rave about it for quite a long period of time. I found out about it from skincare expert Caroline Hirons (link here) - You should read her blog. Its price compared with other acid toners that contain glycolic acid is quite reasonable.
When I first started using it, I had an issue with light acne (again because of constant climate and environment change). I have been using this product periodically since 2013 and it is a staple product in my bathroom cabinet. I personally go through periods of using it - depending on the climate and the weather etc.
Usually, I grab this product at night (because it contains glycolic acid - which makes the skin sun sensitive) and if I need a more intense and quick result, I use it twice daily on a cotton pad after I cleanse my face.
I would describe the smell as an acid smell (if this makes any sense) - reminds me of a very light and aromatic vinegar. You definitely know that it is working if it tingles a little! You can see the results almost right away.
The main ingredient in this product is glycolic acid. Glycolic acid is in the A-HA family!
So what are A-HA?
A-HA , A-hydroxy acids are used for painless, usually safe, non-invasive acid facial renewal therapies. They are best for skins that are dull, suffer from acne scars, greasiness, premature ageing, discolouration and other micro-imperfections. A-HA increase the elasticity of the skin, stimulates collagen synthesis and leaves the skin shiny and hydrated.

Glycolic acid benefits:
Glycolic acid is derived from sugar cane and it’s the most effective A-HA because of its small molecular structure which helps in deeper skin penetration.
By using glycolic acid on your face it makes it sun sensitive, although the concentration percentage in this product is quite low (5%. ALWAYS use a moisturizer after using it in order to replenish the skin and especially if you use it in the morning, go for a SPF with UVA and UVB protection in it. SPF declares the protection of a product against UVB. A minimum SPF 15 is recommended after using these kinds of products.
Other beneficial ingredients in this product are:
These are known best for toning, firming, smoothing the skin and stimulating blood circulation.
Are you using any other a-HA (a-hydroxyacids) or acid products that help your skin look glowy and fresh? Let us know in the comment section below!
Use moisturiser after each application.
Use SPF with UVA and UVB protection when using glycolic acid in the morning!
